Post-Emulsifiable Liquid Penetrant
NEON-L4 is a premium fluorescent liquid penetrant which works in conjunction with EMU-L4 penetrant emulsifier/remover and PD3 dry powder developer as a level 4 liquid penetrant system and meets the requirements of AMS 2644 (Mil I 25135).
NEON-L4 should be used as supplied. Regular checks for contamination and fluorescent brightness should be carried out to ensure the performance of NEON-L4 is within specification.
Sensitivity level 4 post-emulsifiable penetrants (method D) have the highest level of sensitivity achievable of any penetrant classification. This makes NEON-L4 acceptable for many aerospace applications and ideal for the inspection of highly critical components.
Minimal Harmful Substances
Free from nonylphenol ethoxylates, NEON-L4 avoids restrictions on the transportation and use of products containing these environmentally harmful surfactants. Every effort has been taken to ensure all other potentially harmful substances, such as suspected carcinogens, neurotoxins and endocrine disruptors, have been omitted in favour of safer materials.
NEON-L4 consists of a stable solution of hydrocarbons, esters and fluorescent dyes and is low in Sulfur, halogens and inorganic compounds. NEON-L4 remains stable without precipitation or separation and has good resistance to heat fade if subjected to prolonged or excessively high temperatures during processing.

Method Of Use
|Pre-Cleaning and Drying||Surface contamination such as rust, paint residues, grease, scale etc. must be fully removed. Ensure the component is completely dry and not too hot or cold, i.e. 10-35ºC.|
|Penetrant Application||Apply NEON-L4 to the surface by either immersion, flow-on, electrostatic, aerosol or conventional spray, or brush-on. Ensure a suitable dwell period and allow the component to drain as necessary. The combined application and drainage period should be at least 5 minutes (less for ceramics), up to 20 minutes.|
|Excess Penetrant Removal||The excess penetrant is removed by water rinsing, by either air-agitated water rinse tank, spray rinse tank or manual spray rinse. Rinse for 60 seconds with a water temperature of 15-35ºC and spray pressure of 1.4-1.7 bar.|
|Emulsification||Immerse the component in EMU-L4 emfulsifier at 5-20% v/v with slight agitation for a suitable time to remove the penetrant from the surface, avoiding under-washing which could result in too much background fluorescence, or overwashing which could result in missed indications. Drain for 30 seconds.|
|Water Rinsing||EMU-L4 emulsifier is removed by water rinsing, by either air-agitated water rinse tank, spray rinse tank or manual spray rinse. Rinse for 60 seconds with a water temperature of 15-35ºC and spray pressure of 1.4-1.7 bar.|
|Drying||Drying is typically carried out in a recirculating oven at 50-60ºC for a maximum of 15 minutes, though longer times may be required for larger components.|
|Development||PD3 dry powder developer can be applied by spraying or dust storm cabinet. Allow at least 10 minutes after application to ensure proper development of the defects.|
|Defect Inspection||Inspection is carried out under black light in a darkened area. The UV-A brightness at the inspected surface should be >1000 μW/cm². Defects will appear as bright yellow traces.|
